The Muay Thai Development League (MDL) is an E-Class event — E stands for Education.

MDL should be viewed as a controlled sparring experience against an athlete from another gym who is matched as closely as possible by age, weight, and experience.

This is not a fight to determine a winner.

The goal is to give athletes the experience of stepping outside their own gym and applying their Muay Thai against someone unfamiliar, while remaining safe, composed, technical, and coachable.

MDL is a semi-contact developmental exercise with a goal of zero injuries.

A referee will control the action and prevent the bout from becoming overly aggressive. If one athlete is clearly dominating, the referee or coaches may ask that athlete to tone it down so both athletes have an opportunity to work, learn, and develop.

The same applies if your athlete is being overwhelmed.

The goal is not to beat the opponent. The goal is to demonstrate that you can apply Muay Thai correctly against an unfamiliar athlete while maintaining balance, position, technique, defense, composure, and control.
